Balcona Bodegas: a legacy rooted in the land and tradition

The history of Balcona Bodegas is an evocative mix of courage and roots in the land. Started by grandmother Josefa, nicknamed “la balcona” (the balcony) because of her house with a balcony, this story transcends the Spanish period after the Civil War. Faced with adversity, Josefa founded the first Balcona winery to provide wine for her workers. Dolores “la Balcona” expanded the vineyards together with her husband Antonio “el Partal” and in the 1950s her son founded the first cooperative in the village.

This tradition continued until 1997, when Josep Lluis Pèrez Verdú of Mas Martinet shared his passion for growing vines and making old wines. The philosophy of respect for the vineyard and the search for quality wines became part of Balcona Bodegas..

Rooted in the Aceniche Valley, their ancestral land, Balcona maintains the tradition of winemaking in this historic region. They have been cultivating vineyards since Roman times and their connection to the land is unmistakable. The vineyards are up to 60 years old and produce exceptional wines. In this way, Balcona Bodegas has woven a history intertwined with the land, effort and passion, resulting in a legacy of quality and dedication in every glass.
